Dr. Shamik Bafna is a highly experienced, board-certified ophthalmologist with over 25 years of specialized expertise in advanced vision correction. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held prominent leadership roles, including serving as the Cornea Services Director at the Cleveland Eye Clinic and as a lead surgeon at the Clear Choice Custom LASIK Center. Recognized as a leader in his field, Dr. Bafna has also contributed to the next generation of specialists as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University since 2018.
Dr. Bafna specializes in a wide array of surgical procedures, including premium cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and various refractive surgeries such as LASIK, SMILE, and PRK. His clinical focus extends to complex corneal disease management and the integration of the latest surgical technologies, such as the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) and intraoperative wavefront aberrometry. Notably, Dr. Bafna brings a unique empathetic perspective to his practice, having personally undergone the LASIK procedure.
Dr. Bafna earned his medical degree, as well as a Master’s degree in Bioengineering, from the University of Michigan. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Cullen Eye Institute at Baylor College of Medicine and further specialized with a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the New England Eye Center in Boston.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bafna has been consistently recognized for clinical excellence. He has been named a “Top Doctor” in Cleveland by Castle Connolly every year since 2016. Additionally, he was the recipient of the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship Award and twice received the Everett L. Goar Research Award during his residency. Dr. Bafna is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery.
